Snap On "Gissa Quid" Campaign Raises £35,000 For The Prostate Cancer Charity
(Monday, January 30, 2006) - Snap-on, the leading UK franchise with more than 400 tool dealers, today presents a stunning £35,000 cheque to The Prostate Cancer Charity.
The money was raised in the firm's "Gissa Quid" campaign held last October. During the month, each dealer was given a collection tin to fill with £1 coins while on their rounds as part of an ongoing awareness building and fundraising partnership which the franchise has formed with the men's health charity.
Snap-on began its generous support of The Prostate Cancer Charity when it donated £5,000 worth of tools to the winner of a national pub quiz, organised by the Charity as part of its awareness campaign in March 2005. The franchise kick-started this "Gissa Quid" collection by donating £5,000 towards the prostate cancer cause and its suppliers also dug deep.
To celebrate this enormous achievement, the company presented a cheque to The Prostate Cancer Charity at The British Franchise Show held in the G-Mex, in Manchester on Friday 27 January 2006.
Snap-on Managing Director, Terry Barcham, said: "As prostate cancer is now the most common cancer diagnosed in men and the majority of our franchisees' customers are male, we decided it was important to support The Prostate Cancer Charity and help raise awareness among our customers. Running this fundraiser has enabled us to raise a significant amount of money for charity and put something back into the community in which we have been operating for the last four decades."
Andre Bann, 47, a Snap-on dealer, said: "I was amazed at the support I was given. Out of the 600 people I asked, I only had two refusals. Everyone else said that prostate cancer was a very worthy cause and quite a few people had lost their fathers to it - they were the most generous of all."
John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: "I would like to give my sincerest thanks to everyone at Snap-on who has shown such enthusiasm and dedication to our cause and raised so much money to help the many thousands of men living with prostate cancer in the UK. This will enable us to continue to support men and their families through our information and specialist services as well as fund further research."
