JO TO GO Coffee® to Open Coffee Bar on Megachurch Campus
Kansas City, KS-- Kansas City entrepreneur Richard Oatman will be opening a second JO TO GO Coffee® location on the campus of First Family Church, 7700 W. 143rd St. in Overland Park, in early November. The coffee bar will be located in the 52,000 square foot Children's Center and will serve fabulous coffee drinks to the 5,000 members who attend church services and other special events throughout the week.
Richard Oatman, a member of First Family Church, commented that he and his family are opening the JO TO GO Coffee® bar as a kind of "coffee" ministry.
"We're providing a welcoming space for the community to enjoy informal fellowship with family and friends," said Richard. "We'll also donate a percentage of the profits to First Family Church."
The addition of the specialty coffee franchise to the church campus reflects a national trend in the partnership of business and faith organizations.
Megachurches, generally defined as churches with weekly attendance of over 2,000 people, are striving to become complete, all-encompassing resources for their members. In addition to the traditional Saturday and Sunday worship services, First Family Church offers sports leagues, career counseling and another two dozen ministries that deal with the spiritual, social and economic needs of its members.
Businesses are beginning to collaborate with faith organizations as they look for alternate venues to reach consumers. Although JO TO GO Coffee® has been traditionally focused on developing drive-thru coffee bars, the company is open to alternate methods of communicating with the specialty coffee consumer.
Dick DuBois, president of JO TO GO America, INC, commented: "We are interested in reaching the coffee-lover who seeks to enjoy high-quality, specialty coffee drinks on the fly...but if a savvy businessperson presents us with an alternate method to reach potential customers and provides an opportunity for JO TO GO Coffee® to benefit the local community, we're certainly going to take a look."
First Family Church was founded by Jerry Johnston in 1996. With over 5,000 members and an effective global television and internet ministry, First Family Church is one of the fastest growing churches in America. Senior Pastor Jerry Johnston is a frequent national media commentator. He has appeared on CNN's Crossfire, Good Morning America; MSNBC's Scarborough Country and has been quoted in numerous local and national publications including The New York Times and USA Today.
