Denny's to Host Salvation Army ''Angel Trees'' in Restaurants Nationwide
Gift-Giving Program Helps Ease Worry for Financially-Strapped Families
SPARTANBURG, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2007--For the second year in a row, Denny's restaurants will host Salvation Army "Angel Trees" in hundreds of participating restaurants nationwide to help families ease financial worries during Christmas. The Angel Tree program gives donors an easy way to provide new, unopened toys and gifts to kids who might otherwise go without.
"We don't want Christmas to be a time where parents have to choose between paying the heating bill or buying toys for their kids," said George Hood, National Community Relations Secretary for The Salvation Army. "Having Angel Trees in Denny's restaurants will ease the worry for those families and it will mean that thousands of kids will have a present on Christmas morning."
From November 13 through December 11, participating Denny's restaurants throughout the United States will display "Angel Trees" decorated with paper angel tags with guidelines for guests to select the gender, age and type of gift, such as a toy or clothing, for a needy child in their local area. New, unwrapped gifts can be brought to Denny's by Dec. 11 for distribution by The Salvation Army.
"As our company and franchise employees demonstrate their commitment to the families in their own neighborhoods, we encourage those who are able to help a child in need," said Nelson Marchioli, Chief Executive Officer and President of Denny's. "Whether it's a warm coat or dream toy, you can make the holidays richer with your gifts. We thank you in advance for caring."
Last year, Denny's restaurants collected more than 268,000 toys and gifts that were donated to families in need.
Originating in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1979, The Salvation Army Angel Tree program began through a partnership with a local mall to set up Christmas trees with angel tags, each representing a child in need whose family was being served by The Salvation Army. That first year, the Angel Tree program gave almost 700 children a joyful Christmas morning. Twenty-eight years later, the program is now in nearly every community in the United States and has helped ease the holiday stress of millions of families struggling to make ends meet while placing a Christmas smile on the faces of their children.
