Aziz Hashim, founder and Managing Partner of NRD Capital (NRD. Recently, he served as Chairman of the International Franchise Association, an industry that represents USD 1.6 trillion in economic activity.
In 2014, Hashim was named one of the 50 most influential people in the restaurant industry by Nation’s Restaurant News. Observing the rapidly changing nature of franchising post the Great Recession, including the critical role of operator-centric brand leadership and the lack of focus on unit-level profitability, he founded NRD Capital in 2014, NRD is redefining Franchise private equity by occupying a unique niche among franchise investors.
The fund invests in franchisors that offer compelling unit-level economics, infuses capital, and applies industry-leading operating expertise in order to grow brands quickly and efficiently. Based in Atlanta, NRD’s portfolio includes successful concepts like Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and the iconic Frisch’s Big Boy brand, acquired by NRD in 2015. Frequently contributing to the industry’s growth, Mr. Hashim regularly shares his knowledge and experience at major business and franchise conferences. In 2014, Mr. Hashim and his wife endowed a faculty position at the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality at Georgia State University for the Study of Franchise Entrepreneurship.
